Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a reaction that can occur following any traumatic experience such as a life-threatening event, military combat, a natural disaster, terrorist incidents or threats, serious accidents, a violent personal assault, or abuse. People who suffer from PTSD often relive the experience through nightmares and flashbacks, and may have difficulty sleeping, concentrating, and functioning in their day-to-day lives. Symptoms of generalized anxiety, hypervigilance, and/or depression are also common in PTSD.
